Verification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHGE) Inventories

The INT performs verification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories (GHGEs) produced by organizations that follow standards ISO 14064 or Brazilian GHG Protocol Program.

What is Inventory Verification?

With the intensification of climate change, some measures have been adopted by organizations to reduce their emissions. One such measure could be the realization of GHG inventories, where it is possible to quantify the emissions generated in its processes.

The verification carried out by an independent third party seeks to ensure that the inventory of GHG emissions of an organization has been prepared within the requirements and with quality information, helping in managing their emissions.

Why having a verified inventory is useful?

Verification ensures that information can be used by the parties interested in GHG mitigation programs, in compliance with the laws for environmental licensing, to participate in the carbon market.

The Verification Body

The INT is seeking accreditation as Organism of Verification and Validation (OVV) with Inmetro to be the first public entity to offer this type of service.

The Institute has the financial resources and stability required for its operations relating to verification and validation activities through Governmental budget allocation, as well as financial resources of the Union budget.

The INT is legally liable for all its activities as an Organism of Verification and Validation. Because INT is a federal public body of the direct administration, the legal advice is carried out by the Attorney General of the Union (AGU). In case INT loses a case in an ultimately decision, the amount due is assigned into the Governmental budget, by the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (MPOG). The indemnity payment due to Union conviction constitutes court order.

The accounting and financial implementation of the Verification and Validation activities is the responsibility of the Support Foundation.

The Institute participates in standardization forums along with institutions such as ABNT and Inmetro, as well as workshops and events related to GHG emissions and climate change.

Use of the trademark

The statements issued by INT are valid only for the specified inventory, within the agreed level of trust with the customer, not being extended to other inventories, scopes or purposes that are not in the signed contract. The inventory verified by INT may have public access and used for purposes involving verified emissions, since linked to the year to which the emissions are related.
